New Spider-man Announced!

And it ain't young Mr Hutcherson! Apparently they went with the most unknown of unknowns for this, click away my pretties. Updated with announcement pics...
Alex Billington over at Firstshowing has tweeted that Sony have revealed our new Spider-man, and its Andrew Garfield!
Alex confirmed to me that the news is indeed official, and its now as I type being reported by the trades. So, major turnaround there. Garfield's most mainstream role is probably in Terry Gilliam'sImaginarium Of Dr Pernassus. He also starred in Lions For Lambs.

Director Marc Webb says..
“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures said..
“Spider-Man is a classic superhero -- a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker.”
Producer Avi Arad added,
“I’m incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

John Malkovitch and Anne Hathaway for Spider-man 4
Movieline reports:
"Movieline has confirmed with sources close to the film that Raimi’s sequel is circling John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway to play Spider-Man’s adversaries, and neither evildoer is quite what you might have expected.
Tobey Maguire on the fourth Spider-man movie
Tobey Maguire talked about Spider-man 4 and being reluctant in playing the Amazing Arachnid for the 3rd sequel.
"It’s not that I was reluctant. For me, it’s a big process to decide whether or not to do a role...I have to want to wake up in the morning and feel like I can’t wait to get to work. I’ve got to feel okay about leaving my kids for 12 or 13 hours a day for five months. It’s a big commitment."
"Hopefully I’ll be able to evolve the character in a new direction. He’ll still be Peter Parker, but I hope I can move him forward a bit and take him to a place where there will be new challenges for me as an actor."

Got this from an intern friend involved in storyboarding. It could be (and very well may be) a very creative fabrication, but it sounds awesome! His internship would be kaput if this lead back to him, but I had to share his summary! It has the return of Norman Osborne, the Scorpion, the Lizard, Black Cat, a new Venom, Alistair Smythe, and sets up for Carnage...AND IT ALL MAKES PERFECT SENSE. It also fills in the holes of the past 3 movies. AND he tells me they're thinking of using Bruce Campbell as Scorpion/New Venom! Again,I don't know how legit this is he could just be messing with me, but it stands alone worth reading. Enjoy-
Full Message SPIDER-MAN 4 INSIDER PLOT SUMMARY

Spider-Man 4 The movie opens with the marriage of Peter and Mary Jane. The marriage is oddly normal. Peter is more concerned that his spider-sense is NOT going off than anything else, leaving him distant and distracted. This upsets Mary Jane. Aunt May has a dizzy spell, and nearly faints, but contains herself without anyone noticing. The two go on honeymoon without a qualm, but with underlying tension. The next scene is one of Dr. Conners sequencing reptilian DNA codes in his office, late at night. He is startled when his sample of Peter's symbiote suddenly becomes violent, and breaks its casing in an attempt to escape. Dr. Conners quickly catches the specimen, and places it in a stronger container. We see the trapped symbiote hungrily advancing on the specimens it is placed next to, a large emperor scorpion, and a bearded dragon.
Black Cat in Spider-man 4
Rachel McAdams has met with Spider-man producers for a role on the next Spidey outing. McAdams is major contender for the role of Felicia Hardy, known in comic circles as the Black Cat. A reluctant villain, cat burglar and sometime love interest for Spider-man.Though Black Cat might not be the only villain on the next Spider-man film, chances are the Lizard whose presence has been felt in the three previous films in the form of his alter ego, Dr. Connors, might still be up for the main baddie role. Though reports are said that Raimi and company are yet to cast a yet unnamed villain.
I for one would love the Lizard to be the major villain on Spider-man 4, because we have invested already some time with his character with the other movies. The introduction of Black Cat might be interesting, and may rejuvenate this franchise or just fizzles it out.
