Who is PYRO?
PYRO is Saint-John Allerdyce, he is an X-Men supervillain. Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne, he first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #141 (January 1981).
PYRO is a mutant who possesses the power to psionically control fire and flame, though not generate it. He wears a flame thrower on his back to provide the flame which he then takes control of. PYRO met the mutant Mystique, who later recruited him to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as a professional criminal and subversive.
PYRO continued to fight with Mystique's Brotherhood even after the team offered their services to the United States government in exchange for protection and an official pardon for its crimes, and was renamed Freedom Force.
During Freedom Force's final mission, the team confronts a group of Iraqi operatives known as Desert Sword in Kuwait. Ultimately Freedom Force is defeated and PYRO and Blob are abandoned in Kuwait and captured. Blob and PYRO are forced to serve as bodyguards to the country's military.
PYRO resurfaced as a member of another version of the Brotherhood, which is now headed by Toad. Toad had bartered for PYRO and Blob's freedom from the Iraqis, so they joined his team out of obligation or gratitude. This Brotherhood went up against the fledgling mutant team X-Force and the new government group X-Factor, and met defeat.
Some years later, PYRO contracted the Legacy Virus, a fatal disease affecting mainly mutants. He went to great lengths to find a cure, several times at the expense of others, but was unsuccessful in his search and succumbed to the virus. This was just after saving Senator Robert Kelly from a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. This act of heroism was also instrumental in changing Senator Kelly's opinion on mutants as a whole, and led to his decision to work toward peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants.
But this is comics, and death is never permanent. We next see PYRO as one of the mutants resurrected by Selene in the Necrosha storyline. He appeared on the shore of Utopia, PYRO was aware that he was dead. And despite acknowledging how he had died a hero, he quickly reverted to enjoying the life of a villain.

This is the 78th article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.
Who is the character below? [Use the comment section to write what's the character's connection to PYRO]
Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
