PARALLAX: Fear Entity [bio]
"The whole universe will empower me as our terror spreads old man. And Sinestro will control all."

Comic Book History

PARALLAX is a DC comics character that is the embodiment of fear, he is featured primarily in Green Lantern comic books. The PARALLAX identity was conceptualized by Ron Marz and Darryl Banks, and first appeared in Green Lantern #50. The entity concept was created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver and established its sentience in Green Lantern: Rebirth #1. (2005)

First Appearance

PARALLAX is a demonic parasitic entity old as time itself, being the embodiment of fear he travels from world to world and causing entire civilizations to destroy themselves out of paranoia.

PARALLAX was imprisoned by the Guardians of the Universe within the Central Power Battery on Oa. They used the green energy of willpower to overcome the yellow energy of fear generated by PARALLAX. The parasitic entity then laid dormant for billions of years. The dormant PARALLAX became known as the "yellow" impurity that gave the early lanterns a weakness to the color that emotion is attached to, fear.

PARALLAX presence will be known in modern times first as the insane Hal Jordan, considered as the greatest Green Lantern. His insanity was actually due to PARALLAX influencing Hal Jordan, and increasing his self-doubt and then fear.

Freed from the Oan Central Power Battery, PARALLAX went to jump from one host to another; he usually is separated from his host due to their amazing willpower. Here are a few of the other known hosts of PARALLAX-

The Guardian known as Ganthet

Another Earthling Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner

After an incident involving Hal Jordan, PARALLAX finds himself trapped and chained in an energy bubble in the planet called Ryut. A being dressed in cloak controls him, awaiting his command to take on a new host.

PARALLAX found a new host in the superhero known as the Flash

Later, the renegade guardian, Krona, captured PARALLAX and the other embodiments of the emotional spectrum.

He placed PARALLAX once again inside the Green Lantern's Central Power Battery, introducing once more the yellow impurity to the Green Lantern's rings, so that he could control the members of the Green Lantern Corps.

It was only thru the effort of the Earth Lanterns (especially Guy Gardner), wearing other colored rings that they were able to remove PARALLAX from the Green Lantern Central Power Battery.

PARALLAX : Fear Entity

Clancy Brown
PARALLAX appears in the live-action Green Lantern movie as the main villain. In the film, PARALLAX is voiced by Clancy Brown and is the result of the Yellow Energy possessing and corrupting Krona, portrayed here as a Guardian of the Universe. Abin Sur had imprisoned him in the planet Ryut, but the fear entity escapes and seeks revenge to the Green Lantern by causing havoc throughout Sector 2814 before killing the officer. Ultimately, PARALLAX is stopped by Abin Sur's successor, Hal Jordan, as well as destroyed for good by being pulled into the gravity well of the sun.

Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Fear Projection: PARALLAX has immense fear-casting powers

Mind Control: PARALLAX has powerful mind-control abilities

Possession: It can take possession of someone's body when they feel even the slightest fear

Fear-Induced Energy Manipulation: PARALLAX as the embodiment of Fear is capable of generating, and manipulating vast amounts of energy. PARALLAX is capable of all the powers of a Qwardian Power Ring. PARALLAX is also capable of creating solid energy constructs

Reality Manipulation

Time Manipulation

Immortality: As a living entity of an emotional concept, PARALLAX is for all purposes undying.

Message to the CBM community:
To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not, please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
