"Many there are who assume that I eat only to escape a nagging shrew of a wife. Nonsense! I eat only because I enjoy it!"
-- VOLSTAGG
Who is VOLSTAGG?
VOLSTAGG is a stern ally and friend of Thor and a jovial member of the fabled Warriors Three.
He is much older than other Asgardians, VOLSTAGG will often be the cause of more problems than the solution. He likes food and drink and is very boastful, but he remains a trusted and worthy comrade to his companions. VOLSTAGG has a large family and an unknown number of children with his wife, Gudrun.
VOLSTAGG's Family
VOLSTAGG was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #119 (August, 1965). In the beginning years VOLSTAGG was portrayed as a stumbling oaf. He is not taken from Norse mythology but an original creation, modeled on Shakespeare's Falstaff in character and name.
first appearance
Most of VOLSTAGG's adventures are with the Warrior's Three, which is composed of himself, Fandral and Hogun.
Encountering the New Mutants
VOLSTAGG and his family met the New Mutants. During the group's trip to Asgard, VOLSTAGG makes friends with Roberto DaCosta, aka Sunspot, challenging him to feats of strength, including arm-wrestling and the lifting of VOLSTAGG himself.
Ragnarok
Eventually, Loki brings about Ragnarok. VOLSTAGG and the Warriors Three escape to the home of the light elves, but his friends soon fall. His trials make him lose considerable weight, and he died along the other Asgardians as they made their last stand.
The dead Asgardians were reincarnated on Earth, they do not remember their old self. All the Warriors Three were in the forms of three soldiers in Africa. Thor later would remind them who they truly are.
Siege
Later, VOLSTAGG became a pawn that set the motion for the Siege of Asgard. He set-off to Chicago seeking adventures like those of Thor. He stops a robbery but causes a lot of damage. He is attacked by the U-Foes (who were operating under orders of Norman Osborn and Loki). The incident destroys Soldier Field in Chicago, killing many, due to VOLSTAGG deflecting the energy blasts using his sword.
VOLSTAGG throughout most of his comicbook existence maintained a constant look.
LIVE APPEARANCE
VOLSTAGG appears in the 2011 live-action film, Thor played by Ray Stevenson.
POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.
VOLSTAGG possesses various superhuman attributes common amongs the Gods of Asgard.
Superhuman Strength: Like all Asgardians, VOLSTAGG is superhumanly strong.
Superhuman Stamina: Despite the fact that he is no longer in his physical prime, VOLSTAGG's stamina remains undiminished. His musculature generates considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a human. He can physically exert himself for about 24 hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.
Superhumanly Dense Tissue: Like all Asgardians, VOLSTAGG's bodily tissues have about 3 times the density of the bodily tissues of a human. This contributes, somewhat, to VOLSTAGG's superhuman strength and weight.
Superhuman Durability: VOLSTAGG's body is much harder and more resistant to damage than the body of a human being. VOLSTAGG can withstand great impact forces, falls from great heights, powerful energy blasts, and exposure to extremes in both temperature and pressures without sustaining injury.
Extended Longevity: VOLSTAGG, like all Asgardians, isn't immortal in the same sense as members of other god pantheons but he does age much slower than a human. He is also immune to all known Earthly diseases and infections.
Regenerative Healing Factor: If VOLSTAGG is injured, his Asgardian metabolism enables him to repair damages tissue much faster and much more extensively than a human being.
AbilitiesVOLSTAGG is a good hand to hand combatant and horseman. He IS proficient in using a sword or quarterstaff in battle. Additionally, he has mastered the art of using his great size to best advantage on the field of battle.

Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
