FANDRAL : The Dashing

"Deeply and hungrily, I drank of her eyes...in that instant I knew 'twas destined for this fair maid to enthrall my heart...and be my wife!"
--FANDRAL

Who is FANDRAL?
FANDRAL is a Marvel Comics character, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #119.

first appearance

He is a member of Asgard's celebrated heroes, the fabled Warriors Three. FANDRAL, Hogun and Volstagg are longtime friends who work together as a team.

The Warriors Three with Thor

Their first known mission together took place at an unknown time in the past when they joined the quest by sea led by the prince of Asgard, Thor, to discover the reason why a crack had appeared in the Odinsword of Asgard. The Warriors Three aided Thor in quelling a mutiny. Since then Hogun, FANDRAL, and Volstagg have been Thor's friends, allies, and companions, and have aided him in numerous exploits.

FANDRAL is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions; as perennially pointed out by the gloomy Hogun. FANDRAL considers himself the consummate ladies' man and is often depicted with a bevy of young ladies. Despite these flaws, he possesses an excessively noble spirit and will do the right thing without thought to his personal safety or prosperity.

FANDRAL and his comrades in Warrior's Three had several adventures in Midgard, which have amusing results. Here's a sample:

FANDRAL has many adventures, but these are not very prominent in the whole Marvel Universe. FANDRAL mainly has stayed with his look, throughout most of his comicbook existence, with minor tweaks here and there.

Live Appearance
Joshua Dallas plays FANDRAL:Like in the comicbook, FANDRAL is a member of the Warriors Three, characterized as an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. Dallas said he believed that FANDRAL "would like to think of himself a philanderer. He would like to think of himself, I was saying, as the R. Kelly of Asgard. He’s a lover, not a fighter". Dallas also mentioned that Errol Flynn was an inspiration for the character stating, "He was a big inspiration for the character and for me. I watched a lot of his movies and kind of got that into my bones. I tried to bring out that little bit of Flynn-ness in it. Flynn had a lot of that boyish charm that Fandril's got....

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

As an Asgardian, FANDRAL has several superhuman attributes.

Superhuman reflexes

Superhuman agility: FANDRAL is one of the most agile warriors in Asgard, able to jump to great heights and is an able climber. He is able to evade multiple attacks from an army of opponents in the midst of battle.

Superhuman Stamina: FANDRAL's advanced musculature generates considerably less fatigue toxins than the musculature of a human. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair him, which is about average for an Asgardian.

Extended Longevity: Like all other Asgardians, FANDRAL ages at an extremely slow rate compared to humans.

AbilitiesFANDRAL is an expert swordsman, with centuries of experience in hand-to-hand combat. FANDRAL is also exceptionally handsome and charming, giving him a great deal of success in dealing with women.

This is the 56th article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.

Question for the Übergeeks:
Who is this character?

Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
