DEATHSTROKE: The Terminator

"Quit trying to talk to him. We're not fighting a man, he's a tank! Treat him as such! Go for the kill." --DEATHSTROKE
With SMALLVILLE finally over, this week "Know Your CBM Characters" will feature heroes and villains that has a history with the show.

Who is DEATHSTROKE?
DEATHSTROKE is Slade Wilson, he was genetically augmented to be the perfect soldier, he is ruthless and cunning. He is a great combatant and weapons master. He first appeared in New Teen Titans (vol. 1) #2 (December 1980), and was created by Marv Wolfman & George Pérez.

DEATHSTROKE the Terminator first appeared in 1980, in the pages of New Teen Titans. He was originally introduced as "the Terminator", a mercenary who was completing the terms of a contract undertaken by his son, Ravager, who died battling the Titans.

DEATHSTROKE as he first appeared

DEATHSTROKE was imbued with enhanced physical powers by secret army experiments attempting to create metahuman supersoldiers for the U.S. military, DEATHSTROKE became a mercenary soon after the experiment when he defied orders and rescued a friend, who was sent on a suicide mission.

[Captain America's on the phone he wants his origin back.]

After an incident where their son was taken as a hostage, due to DEATHSTROKE's mercenary dealings. His wife, enraged at the endangerment of their son, tried to kill DEATHSTROKE by shooting him, but only managed to destroy his right eye. He wears a mask which has a black, featureless half covering on his lost eye. Without his mask, Slade wears an eye-patch.

DEATHSTROKE then became one of the main antagonists for the Titans. He even had his young "lover" Terra infiltrated their ranks, with the plan to betray them. DEATHSTROKE was confronted by Dick Grayson, now going by the name Nightwing, and his son Jericho, who has the power to possess others. When Jericho possessed Slade, Terra thought she was betrayed and then she commited suicide.

In another storyline, DEATHSTROKE was forced to kill one his son, Jericho, when he was possessed and corrupted by the souls of Azarath.

Slade underwent a process to gain the ability of physical regeneration, allowing him to survive any wound so long as his brain is intact (this power is limited, as Slade cannot regenerate his lost eye because that injury happened before he gained his healing factor).

DEATHSTROKE then recruits a new ally to his cause: his daughter, Rose Wilson. Slade kidnapped Rose and pumped her full of the same chemicals that transformed him into DEATHSTROKE. But those chemicals damaged Rose's mind. In an attempt to emulate her father, the Rose gouged out her own eye.

During the Identity Crisis storyline, DEATHSTROKE was hired by Dr Light as a bodyguard. He single-handedly fought several members of the Justice League. Only the gamble by Green Arrow did they get the upperhand and only by their combined effort did they finally subdue DEATHSTROKE.

DEATHSTROKE also organized his own team of superhumans, which he dubbed Titans East.

During the Blackest Night event, when the dead of the DC universe rose again as Black Lanterns, DEATHSTROKE and her daughter, Rose, worked together to fight their dead love ones.

After the events of Blackest night DEATHSTROKE went again on a recruiting spree for a new team of superhumans, again hi-jacking the name Titans, but his group are tagged Villains for Hire.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Enhanced Mind: Able to utilize 9 times more than a human's full brain capacity for information processing and sorting, DEATHSTROKE's mind is virtually a computer built for strategy and problem-solving, one that works at optimal ability even when under stress and fatigue. Using his superior problem-solving skills, DEATHSTROKE can work out a battle ahead of time for many possibilities and predict enemy movements and tactics after the battle has engaged by recalling and utilizing memorized mannerisms acquired through past experience on a moment's notice. He is also ingenious in devising solutions against superior aspects of opponents, can observe and exploit, and can calculate distance, speed, and time at lightning speeds; his sense of timing is superb, bordering on perfection.

Enhanced Reflexes: DEATHSTROKE possesses enhanced reflexes. The speed at which he reacts allows him to dodge fast-moving projectiles such as arrows and bullets. He can usually out-react even the fastest humans, no matter how well-trained.

Enhanced Strength: His entire muscular system was hardened and strengthened, allowing DEATHSTROKE to be "as strong as 10 men".

Enhanced Stamina: DEATHSTROKE can exert himself at peak capacity greater then any human could.

Enhanced Speed: Ability to run at speeds of up to 30mph and long distances far out-performing any Olympic athlete.

Enhanced Senses: DEATHSTROKE's senses have been augmented to higher levels of ability. He can hear, see, and smell things better than a normal human.

Regenerative Healing Factor: With an enhanced ability to heal damaged tissue, the rate at which DEATHSTROKE's body recovers from injury and capable of being repaired before death. As such, DEATHSTROKE's body can take a tremendous amount of punishment before succumbing to death. Simple gunshot and stab wounds, cuts, and broken bones can heal faster then normal. He was once impaled clean through his chest, and it did naught but slow him down and cause great pain.

Masterful Tactician: Slade is most likely the greatest strategist and tactician on the planet always calculating his opponents moves before hand.

Skilled Martial Artist: Trained in hand-to-hand combat and when he was in the Army, he proved himself to be one of their best fighters. During this time, he received Martial Arts training through Boxing, Jujitsu and Karate. After mastering these Martial arts he furthered his studies when he sought an assassin known as Natas to train him in the ways of Ninja and had studied assassination techniques.

This is the 62nd article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.

Build up your GEEKCREDS by answering this:

Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
