ICEMAN : The Coolest X-Man

"Oh... sorry! Was that cold? Just be glad it wasn't Wolverine giving you the wake-up call!" --ICEMAN
With the X-Men First Class movie looming in the horizon, we need to educate the non-comicbook readers who were part of the real X-Men First Class… before its too late.

Who is ICEMAN?
ICEMAN is Bobby Drake, a mutant who is able to transform his body into ice. With his power he can create his ice slides, shields, spikes, and also freeze others. He is one of the original X-MEN.

ICEMAN is a Marvel Comics superhero, a member of the X-Men. He was created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-writer Jack Kirby, he first appeared in X-Men vol. 1 #1, (September 1963).A mutant, ICEMAN has the ability of cryokinesis where he can freeze anything around him and can also turn his body into ice. Although he is an Omega-level mutant, Drake has yet to tap his full mutant potential.

CHANGING LOOKS
X-Men First Class
ICEMAN was given a training uniform by Prof. X. It is a modified version of the X-Men's first costumes to suit ICEMAN's special abilities. He initially covered himself in snow, and his outfit was a yellow shorts and a pair of boots, though they sometimes, like the pants, were iced over.

Bobby improved control over his abilities and his snow-like form hardened into an ice-like, almost transparent exterior

Champion
With the Champions, ICEMAN came up with his first real costume, A light blue and white suit that covers his whole body.

Defender
Later he joined his former X-Men teammates, Angel and Beast, in the Defenders. ICEMAN returned to his former look, though now the shorts and boots were colored light blue.

X-Factor
ICEMAN with the other original X-Men reunited, and came up with the idea of X-Factor. They acted as a mutant hunting group, while secretly they were helping mutants to handle their powers. In situations that required the use of their powers, the team used the cover identities of the X-Terminators along with a new set of costumes.

Inhibitor Belt
The god of Mischief Loki tampered with ICEMAN’s abilities, increasing them to a level that he could no longer properly control it. He wore an inhibitor belt to keep his powers in check.

ICEMAN wardrobes
Bobby has worn a lot of costumes but most of them are forgettable, because we usually see Bobby in his ice form.

ICEMAN upgraded
ICEMAN experimenting on his powers learned to turn his entire body to ice, instead of just wearing an icy exterior, ICEMAN now was capable of using his power in new, aggressive ways, adding spikes and padding to his ice structure. He also found a way to increase his mass while he was in his ice form.

Secondary Mutation
Receiving a chest wound in a fight against Black Tom, sees ICEMAN returning to normal with his chest didn't fully recovered and some parts of it remained icy.

Cool as ICEMAN
ICEMAN is back to his former glory or even better, able to control his powers more efficiently.

LIVE MEDIA APPEARANCE
In the movies X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand ICEMAN is portrayed by Shawn Ashmore.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Thermokinesis: ICEMAN is a mutant with the superhuman ability to lower his external and internal body temperature, projecting intense coldness from his body.

Thermal Vision: The ability to see beings due to the heat signature that others give off, because of the absence of heat around him.

Cryokinesis: ICEMAN can use his mutant ability to control moisture such as to freeze any air moisture into super-hard ice. This ice can be formed into any object of his choosing: the only limitations are his own imagination, and the ambient air temperature which determines how long his ice sculpture will stay icy.

Organic-Ice Form: Ability to not only cover his body with ice, but to actually become organic ice. Though the appearance is similar, ICEMAN is now actually translucent in his ice form. ICEMAN is virtually indestructible in this form, allowing him to reform his body should it become shattered. He has been incinerated while in human form, and was able to rebuild himself.

Hydrokinesis: ICEMAN can use surrounding moisture to augment himself, allowing him to travel within large bodies of water very quickly. He is able to convert his body to gigantic proportions as well, through absorption of a body of water or water vapor in the air. One side effect of this is he gains superhuman strength to match his superhuman size. Wherever there is any moisture, ICEMAN is a threat. ICEMAN has demonstrated the ability to be transformed into nothing more than water vapor, yet remain conscious and retain the use of his powers. His conscious control of his abilities has allowed him to exist simultaneously in two places at once.

Molecular Moisture Inversion: The ability to freeze water molecules.

Molecular Moisture Conversion: The ability to transform organic matter, such as a human body, to organic ice and back again. Though he has only done this to himself, he does possess the potential, as demonstrated by his AoA counterpart, to preform the feat with passengers. With this, it is possible for him to project his consciousness through moisture molecules and reform his body at the destination.

AbilitiesBobby is a Certified Practicing Accountant, a skilled ice skater, and can speak Spanish fluently.

This is the 39th article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.
Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
