"Yo, X-Men -- hit the bricks, ya'll come a'runnin' -- we got us a job t'do! An' some heads t'bust!"--ROGUE
We have run through the members of X-MEN's First Class (Comics and Movie versions), its now time to move the spotlight to the other members of the team.
Who is ROGUE?
ROGUE is Anna Marie, once a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, ROGUE switch sides and now a veteran member of the X-Men. She has the power to absorb the thoughts, abilities, and memories of others through physical contact.
ROGUE is a Marvel Comics character created by author Chris Claremont and artist Michael Golden. She made her debut appearance in Avengers Annual #10 (August 1981) as a villain. ROGUE was born as a mutant. More so than most, ROGUE considers her powers a curse: she involuntarily absorbs and sometimes also removes the memories, physical strength, and (in the case of superpowered persons) the abilities of anyone she touches. For most of her life, this potentially fatal ability prevented her from making any physical contact with others, but after many years ROGUE finally gained full control over her power.
ROGUE was born in Caldecott County, Mississippi. As a young child ROGUE was a rebellious and at some point she ran away from home as a young teenager. This was when she meets Mystique, who became ROGUE's foster mother. Her latent mutant power to absorb the life energy and psyche of others with skin-to-skin contact emerged when ROGUE impulsively kissed a boy. ROGUE was traumatized by the experience, and begun wearing body-concealing clothing that eliminated the possibility of accidental skin contact. Because of her power ROGUE became lonely, envious, bitter, which later turned into anger. She then joined Mystique's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
One notable mission with the Brotherhood is when ROGUE absorbed the powers of Ms. Marvel. Because of the prolonged contact, the effect seemed to be permanent and ROGUE gained Ms. Marvel's strength but also her psyche. This caused problems with her and her powers, she asked admittance to Charles Xavier's school to learn how to control her power. She was reluctantly admitted, but later on proved herself and became one of the valuable members of the X-Men.
CHANGING APPEARANCES
First Costume
In her admittance to Xavier's school, ROGUE wore a green suit including a hood, thus nearly covering her entire body, fearing she could accidentally absorb another person. However, the gloves could be easily removed, in case she wanted to use her talent on an opponent. The original version had a dark green outline, though it was later colored white.
ROGUE Costumes
After returning from the events of Secret Wars, ROGUE wanted a new look and tried out several costumes.
Outback Costume
After a battle against a mystical entity known as the Adversary, the X-Men's physical and spiritual essences were used as fuel to close the doorway to the Adversary’s plane of existence. The X-Men died but Roma, guardian of the multiverse, used her powers to revive them. The X-Men then resettled to an Australian ghost town and set it up as their new base of operations. By this time ROGUE finally settled on one look. It was still the black bodysuit but most of it covered by a bathing suit, overknee boots and long sleeves, all colored green.
X-Men Green and Yellow Costume
The X-Men eventually returned home in Manchester, The X-Men grew in number so were divided into two squads. ROGUE was assigned to the Blue Strike Force led by Cyclops. ROGUE also received a new costume. The green and yellow suit, along with the leather jacket.
Shi'ar Suit
Gladiator, leader of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, who then teleported a selected group of X-Men to the Shi’ar Empire to defeat the Phalanx and keep them from destroying the entire Imperium. Among this squad, Beast was the senior member, yet all turned to ROGUE for leadership and she filled the expected role. In this adventure ROGUE wore a mining suit, designed with a special low grade force field surrounding it’s wearer. This allowed her to apparently touch other people, though the very thin shield kept her from actually making contact. ROGUE took the suit with her back to Earth.
Big X Costume
After returning to earth, and several adventures later, ROGUE was elected the new field leader for one X-Men squad. Other members that had filled the position before were either busy with the other team or unavailable for other reasons. After filling up this position ROGUE find herself with a new costume with a big X across the chest area and was in her familiar green and yellow color scheme.
X-Treme ROGUE
ROGUE later joins the X-Treme X-Men led by Storm. ROGUE requested her teammate, Sage to use her power jump-starting abilities to evolve ROGUE to a point where she could control all of the various powers that she has ever imprinted. Sage agreed, and ROGUE became a one-woman army, able to use the powers of anyone she had absorbed in the past all at once. ROGUE followed suit they on the team's costume motiff of mainly in red and black. Like the rest in her team, ROGUE has a set of red sunglasses with special properties that serves as the group’s communication and scanning device.
ROGUE's Return
ROGUE and her beau Gambit returned to the X-Men's main team while ROGUE's abilities, which she loses after a major fight, were slowly returning to her, however the abilities she gained from Ms. Marvel seemed to have been lost. During this time ROGUE gained a couple of new attires, mostly in her preferred green color.
ROGUE Mass Absorbing Mutant Powers
LIVE APPEARANCES
ROGUE was portrayed by Anna Paquin in the X-Men trilogy. In the films, her relationship with Wolverine echoes his relationships with both Jubilee and Shadowcat in the comics; that of a protective surrogate father. In the films, her love interest is Iceman.

This is the 45th article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
